Dental Crowns and Bridges
As long as we care for our teeth properly, they reward us with a healthy appearance and comfortable function that can potentially last a lifetime. While dental enamel is incredibly strong and durable, however, it is no match for tooth decay, breakage, and excessive wear caused by habits like teeth grinding.
If you have decayed, broken, worn, or missing teeth, Dr. Kathryn Jagow offers porcelain crowns and bridges at her Mountlake Terrace dental office to restore your smile. Using only the finest materials and dental labs, she designs tooth restorations that enhance your smile and stand up beautifully to daily wear and tear.
Why Our Dentist Recommends Dental Crowns
Our goal at Jagow Family Dentistry is to provide high-quality, affordable treatment that fits your time and your budget. We always start by recommending the most conservative treatment that will restore your oral health. In some cases, a tooth filling won't provide the strength and protection a damaged tooth requires. In this case, Dr. Jagow would recommend a dental crown instead. Some examples are:
- Protect a tooth with a cavity too extensive for a filling
- Strengthen a tooth that already has a large filling
- Protect a worn or weak tooth from breaking
- Reinforce a tooth after root canal treatment
- Secure a dental bridge in place
- Conceal a severely discolored or misshapen tooth
- Restore function to a dental implant
The first step is an evaluation at our Mountlake Terrace dental office to see if a tooth crown is right for you. She will perform a thorough evaluation to determine the extent of the damage to the tooth and share x-rays and intraoral images with you so you can see for yourself how a dental crown will benefit your long-term oral health.
Steps for Getting a Dental Crown
Getting a crown placed involves two visits to our Mountlake Terrace dental office. During the first, Dr. Jagow reshapes the tooth to make room for the crown, then takes impressions of the prepared tooth. Together we’ll choose the perfect white shade or porcelain for your new restoration so that it blends seamlessly with your smile.
A custom dental lab prepares your new crown according to our specifications. In about two or three weeks when your final crown is ready, you will return to our office to have it adjusted for fit, polished, and cemented securely on your tooth.
Complete Your Smile with a Dental Bridge
If you are missing one or two teeth from the same spot in your mouth, a dental bridge is an excellent tooth replacement solution to restore your smile.
A bridge consists of an artificial tooth that sits in the open space and is secured by dental crowns anchored to adjacent teeth. The main requirement for getting a dental bridge is that the anchor teeth be strong and healthy enough to support the restoration.
The process for getting a dental bridge is similar to a dental crown and requires two appointments; one to prepare your teeth, and a second to place the bridge in your mouth.
Is a Dental Crown or Bridge Right for You?
When properly cared for with diligent oral hygiene and routine exams and teeth cleanings, crowns and bridges can last 10 years or longer, making them an excellent investment.
