Tooth-Colored Fillings

Our goal is to provide the guidance, support, and services that help everyone in your family maintain excellent oral health. Even so, anyone can get a cavity, and most of us will need to have a tooth filling at some point.

Thanks to advancements in dental materials, we offer metal-free tooth-colored fillings for our Mountlake Terrace patients who have a cavity, a chipped tooth, or need to replace an old filling. This strong and durable material resembles the appearance of tooth enamel, and Dr. Kathryn Jagow can create beautiful repairs that blend discreetly into your smile.

The Benefits of Tooth-Colored Fillings

These types of fillings are also called composite fillings or dental composites because they are a blend of resin and glass particles. The benefit is that this combination imparts a slightly translucent appearance similar to tooth enamel. Once we custom-shade the material and expertly place it on your tooth, no one will suspect you’ve had any dental work done.

Why It’s Important to Address Cavities

Preventive dentistry is all about staying a step ahead of problems like cavities and gum disease. If Dr. Jagow finds a tiny cavity at your routine dental checkup, we will schedule an appointment so she can remove the decay and fill the tooth.

Treating a cavity sooner rather than later prevents the decay from spreading and spares you the discomfort of a toothache. It also helps prevent significant or irreparable damage to the tooth and more involved treatment to correct.

How We Place Tooth-Colored Fillings

Getting a tooth-colored filling at our Mountlake Terrace dental office is typically an uncomplicated process. Your comfort is essential to us, and we understand that you may be nervous about the appointment, but don’t be; our team is gentle and compassionate, and your comfort is our priority.

First, we’ll use a shade guide to choose a white color for your filling that matches the existing tooth. Next, we numb the tooth using a potent local anesthetic to ensure that you won’t feel any pain during your procedure.

Dr. Jagow then carefully removes the decay from the tooth and applies a bonding agent to the remaining tooth structure. She expertly places the filling material, shaping it to follow the contours of the tooth for a seamless repair. The final step is to use a curing light to harden and set the filling.

Because of the way we place tooth-colored fillings, we can make a conservative repair and save more of the tooth’s healthy structure.

We Can Help You Avoid Cavities

Cavities and tooth decay are prevalent, but they’re also highly preventable with proper oral care. Brushing twice a day and flossing once, avoiding sugary or acidic foods, and visiting us every six months for teeth cleanings and dental exams can help you avoid most cavities.

While we can easily repair tooth decay, it’s always better for you and your oral health to prevent it from developing in the first place.

If it’s time for your next dental exam and cleaning, call our Mountlake Terrace dental office so we can schedule an appointment and keep you smiling.
